The History of Goshen Free Will Baptist Church

Since 1931, it has been our goal to build, not only a great church, but a true family of believers.

Our Church started, as most churches, in a Christian’s home. It later moved into its first church building on School Street in Belmont, NC, where it remained for approximately 36 years.

In 1973, a new facility was built on Catawba Avenue in Mt. Holly just a mile or so away, and Goshen remains there today.

Our goal has not changed since the faithful began in 1931 to fulfill the Great Commission. From its conception, Goshen Free Will Baptist has endured many changes, but has not lost sight of the power of the Word of God and His ability to change lives.

Our church is not a building or a business, it is a body made up of many parts-all different but equally important. Young or old, veteran or visitor, everyone has value and a vital part to play in the life of our family here at Goshen, as well as an even more important part in the Kingdom of God.

Our Church Covenant

Having given ourselves to God by faith in Christ, and adopted the Word of God as our rule of faith and practice, we now give ourselves to one another by the will of God in this solemn covenant.

We promise, by His grace, to love and obey Him in all things, to avoid all appearance of evil, to abstain from all sinful amusements and unholy conformity to the world, from all sanction of the use and sale of intoxicating beverages, and to “provide things honest in the sight of all men.”

We agree faithfully to discharge our obligations in reference to the study of the Scriptures, secret prayer, family devotions, and social worship; and by self-denial, faith, and good works endeavor to “grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

We will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together for church conferences, public worship, and the observance of the ordinances of the Gospel; nor fail to pay according to our ability for the support of the church, of its poor, and all its benevolent work.

We agree to accept Christian admonition and reproof with meekness, and to watch over one another in love, endeavoring to “keep the unity of the Spirit” in the bonds of peace, to be careful of one another’s happiness and reputation, and seek to strengthen the weak, encourage the afflicted, admonish the erring, and as far as we are able, promote the success of the church and of the Gospel.

We will everywhere hold Christian principle sacred and Christian obligations and enterprises supreme; counting it our chief business in life to extend the influence of Christ in society, constantly praying and toiling that the kingdom of God may come, and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

About Pastor Burch

I was born in Jacksonville, NC and graduated from Richlands High School in 1973. I was not raised in a Christian home, but accepted Christ as my Savior on September 11, 1985 at Pleasant Acres Free Will Baptist Church in New Bern, NC.

As I served the Lord the best I could, I began to feel the drawing of the Holy Spirit on my life to do more. In January of 2000, I enrolled in Carolina Bible Institute & Seminary in Selma, NC. I preached my first message in May of 2000.

I haven’t looked back since…receiving my Doctorate in 2010. I have had the privilege of serving as Pastor in several churches; and I am presently honored to Pastor Goshen Free Will Baptist Church in Mt. Holly, NC. I have been blessed 37 years with my wonderful wife Barbara, and we have one son in the US Air Force and three wonderful grandchildren.
